Regardless of Cost, a College Degree Pays OffThe U.S. Census Bureau, on March 17, released data that could make writing that student loan repayment check a little easier: Adults with advanced degrees earn four times more than those with less than a high school diploma. The series of tables, Educational Attainment in the United States: 2006, showed adults 18 and older with a master’s, professional or doctoral degree earned an average of $79,946, while those with less than a high school diploma earned about $19,915. The median income of a worker with a four-year college degree was more than $27,000 greater than those without a high school diploma. The median income for those who had earned a master’s degree was more than $38,000 more than those without a high school diploma.
